i have a gtx 760 and im not trying to pay like 350 400 on another 1. was wonderering if i could sli with any other card. should i get a 970 or what?

Solution
The GTX970 will only SLi with another GTX970, it will NOT SLi with a GTX980. A GTX 970 will drive 3 monitors but you might need adaptors as the 970 has mostly displayport ports and only has a single DVI and a single HDMI port.

Personally, I have 2 main systems. One with a Radeon HD R9 290 4GB, the other with a GTX Titan 6GB. They can both drive my desk setup which consists a 4k centre screen (displayport) and a pair of 1080p screens flanking it (1off DVI and 1off HDMI).

Or can i hook my 760 with a 960. and how many watts to run both. will run them on this MSI X99S Gaming 7 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard . Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W BX80648I75820K Desktop Processor will be awesome

WOT

A really expensive high-end processor and motherboard and you're skimping on the graphics card???

You can only SLi same model NVidia graphics cards e.g. a pair of GTX960s, you cannot SLi different models within a range and certainly not when they are from different series.

I hope you don't have the Haswell-E stuff yet as I would suggest going for an z97 board with i5-4690K or i7-4790K and spend the saved money on a better graphics card like a GTX970 or a R9-290x.
