Trying to get ethernet on 2 PCs

To start, I know little to nothing about networking, so I'll need a little help understanding how everything works.

There is a router connected to the PC in the room next to me, and I was wondering if there was a possibility that I could run a second PC through a second Ethernet cable on the same router, or would it make sense to get a new router. The wall port is a cat5 wall port if that helps to know. I've seen stuff about a modem, but I don't know if we have one or not.

Sorry if this sounds so botched, if there is anymore info you need to know to help, let me know and I will try to provide it.

One of the boxes, I don't really care what you call it has 4 Ethernet ports (labeled LAN) on the back, u can certainly run a cable from your PC to one of the LAN port that's available. If unavailable, all 4 being used then u have to buy say an 8 port ETHERNET SWITCH to increase capacity. Of course if you are not the "boss" the network administrator, you should seek permission to do any of these.

The box I was looking at had 4 Ethernet ports on the back labeled "LAN". What do you mean by "boss" though?
