Question Trying to get line-in to show up

Hi, I'm trying to get my nintendo switch audio to come through the pc through my line in jack with a 3.5mm cable. In the past it worked just fine but not anymore, I think it's due to realtek drivers missing but I can't for the life of me get them working, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling them, it even shows up in add/remove programs but doesn't in device manager or my sound settings even with show disabled/disconnected devices ticked for some reason. I'll add a couple screen shots for some extra info.

My pc specs are:

Asus maximus VIII hero
Geforce GTX 1080
i7 7700k

3.5 mm adapter cables are notorious for failing right at the connector. Can you test the cable for proper operation elsewhere?

Yep cable works fine on laptop.

edit; just to clarify, the cable is fine, it works on the laptop but not on the main pc, as stated, I think this is a realtek issue.
