Hi,
I am having a little trouble getting my second monitor to work after getting a new graphics card.

I recently got a MSI 1070 Armor (https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1070-ARMOR-8G-OC.html#hero-overview) which only has digital inputs. My second monitor, which is a Viewsonic (http://www.viewsonic.com.au/products/archive/VA1936a-LED.php) only has a VGA slot on the back of it which from my understanding means it can only send a analogue signal. My main monitor uses HDMI on my GPU leaving me with the option of connecting to the GPU via the display ports or the DVI-D port.

I have tried the setup of Monitor -> VGA cable (http://www.umart.com.au/newsite/goods.php?id=1390) -> VGA to DVI-I (12+5pin) (http://www.umart.com.au/newsite/goods.php?id=29679) -> DVI to Display port adapter (http://www.umart.com.au/newsite/goods.php?id=15504) -> 1070 and it does not work.

Will doing a monitor -> vga cable -> display port to vga adapter (http://www.umart.com.au/newsite/goods.php?id=14717) -> 1070 work??

I'm sorry if I over explained or the format was wrong. I am just trying to throw out as much information about what I have tried so far as the amount of connectors and cables is just overwhelming and I am only just starting to grasp it.

Solution
Whatever adapter you get needs to be an active converter, which requires power (generally this is supplied with a USB connection for 5v power only) because that video card has no analog out so it must be generated in the adapter.

There's also the issue of el-cheapo adapters having blurry looking VGA because an adapter made to sell for $15 simply isn't going to be as high quality as one built into a video card made to sell for hundreds. However this may be less of an issue at your low 720p resolution.

It's almost a crime to pair a 1070 with such a low resolution screen that's not at least 144Hz so I would put the money toward a new monitor instead.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I know its a cruddy monitor for that gpu, but it was the second screen so it didnt really matter too much about quality. I think ill just save for a newer second screen though. A litter bigger with 1080p and digital :)
