Hi all, I got a pc that currently has 8gb of RAM 2 sticks of 4gb gskill. The board is asrock z77 extreme4. The tech document says I can use a wide range of ddr3 sticks. Now I bought an 8gb ram stick and put it in another slot (black) the other 2 are blue and used by 2 sticks and pc wouldn't startup. Do I need 2x of 8gb ram sticks or what am I missing?

I was thinking below RAM 8gb stick but wondering if I will have the same issue, nothing is really all that different

Any thoughts? Thank you

Doesn't look like this board supports proper flex memory, so you likely won't be able to get dual channel memory working with three sticks. On some boards you can do 1x8GB and 2x4GB and still get dual channel working.

Your best bet would be to locate some memory very similar to the g.skill you already have, or get another matching 8GB stick.
