I have a MSI GT70 That has a HDD in it. I Just bought a Samsung SSD 850 Evo (250GB). I have downloaded the Samsung migration tool and used it. After it hits 100% i turn off the computer remove the HDD and boot the laptop up. The SSD does not have any information on it at all. I try to keep the HDD in to see whats going on and the SSD Has no information on it. It tells me its complete every time and to reboot the Laptop but does not work. Any information? Also i only have 176GB on my HDD.

Solution

Put the ssd in, boot it up, then connect the HDD in while the pc is running. After that you can just go back into partition wizard (or use disk...
https://www.partitionwizard.com/
Just copy all the partitions to the SSD. If you are running Win 10, you could just install win10 on ssd and have a fresh install, since the key is linked to the motherboard if you want a new install. It's your choice.

I am about to do the same thing so I have the same concern,....and it seems that the samsung comes with their magican software, sounds like the OP used that as well, but the computer somehow cannot reads??

If,...according to Joshua's, what can the partitionwizard do that the Samsung 's magican software cannot do? that's my question#1, and if it takes a fresh installation of Windows,...will the motherboard accepts the SSD--question #2 ?

So I got the ssd to have windows on it. If I put the hdd in to reconfigure to take everything off it still boots from the hdd. And shows nothing on ssd. I switched the ssd port and the hdd port. Now the hdd is not seen. If I do a fresh reinstall think the hdd would be seen then? When I go into the bios the bios acutally sees the hdd.

Put the ssd in, boot it up, then connect the HDD in while the pc is running. After that you can just go back into partition wizard (or use disk management in windows) and delete the Partitions on the HDD, then add 1 new NTFS partition that uses the full amount of free space (former space taken up by partitions) on the HDD. Thats It.

Won't let me reply but thanks. Other thenight it turned it into 2 portion spots so instead of having 914gb free in one. I have 567gb in one and 347 gb in the other.
