Hello all,

I have an i5-4670k and Z87-D3HP motherboard. The cooler is Hyper Evo 212. You've heard it all before. 😉

First time overclocking, and so far I've increased clock to 4.2GHz and voltage to 1.2v. IntelBurnTest at maximum shows no issues whatsoever, but 10 minutes into Prime95 and my computer BSODs. I should also note that during this test, the temps at around 80-85c.

Can anyone offer some assistance? Is 4.2GHz just not achievable for me, or should I be doing something else to get this OC?

Keep a close eye on temps though since the higher the vcore the higher the temps get you want to be below 90 so I recommend getting a new cooler before trying to overclock again, although you could try running 4ghz with 1.2 vcore and run prime95

I tried 1.25v originally at 4.4ghz but temp issues. Same with 4.2ghz; it climbs to about 90c within mere moments of starting the test. I don't think raising the vcore is going to help me.

I'm a little surprised since I have good airflow in my case and I've read of people reaching 4.4ghz with the same cooler that I have. Everything is different I suppose, but it would be interesting to know if there's anything else I could try. I will decrease it to 4.0ghz for now though. :)

So your cpu may be stable at 4.4ghz with 1.25 vcore you just can't test it with your cooler since it can't keep them temps down well enough. You won't be able to achieve a bigger oc without pushing up the voltage since the higher frequency requires more power.
