Trying to overclock my AMD FX 8350. What am I doing wrong?

Hi all

I have been having trouble overclocking my AMD FX 8350.

Here is my System Spec:

AMD FX 8350
16GB Transcend 1333MHZ DDR3
Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 Rev 4.0
AMD Radeon R9 270x
Corsair H80i
Corsair HX850i (I'm getting 2 970s eventually)

Basically when I try to overclock in the BIOS I need over 1.5 volts to get a stable overclock at 4.5 GHZ. But when I use catalyst I get a stable 4.8GHZ with 1.45 volts.

What am I doing wrong and how can I get better BIOS overclocks?

I'm not sure I understand.

You are using the AMD Catalyst Control Center to overclock your CPU?

You also manage to get 4.8GHz at 1.45Volts. OK. Then if you managed that why does it matter that the BIOS method isn't stable?

Because with the BIOS you can get better voltages

It's possible that AMD Overdrive is raising another value besides the vCore, how to tell which one however i'm not sure how to find out, hopefully somebody else can point you in the right direction.
