Trying to play a DVD movie in a Sony DVD player and the screen says "cannot play this disc." it's loaned to me from a friend w

A friend loaned the Downton Abbey series and I couldn't wait to watch it. Have a Sony DVD player. Popped the disc in and the screen says "Cannot play this disc." it was just viewed recently so the disc shouldn't be the issue. I checked and all wires are correctly plugged in. What else should I try?

If this is a Retail version of the disc, try checking to see if there is a firmware update for your Sony DVD Player. If this is a copy that someone burned, that is likely the issue.

I am really embarrassed to admit that she loaned me a BluRay DVD and our player doesn't show BluRay discs. Thanks so much for taking time to answer though! Guess we should update our technology!
