Hello everyone, I have some old cassette tapes that I want to record some *.wav and *.mp3 files on to my computer but can't get it working. What I have is a external usb audio stick with a headphone jack and a mic port. I have a patch cable coming out of the mic jack in to my Walkman cassette player mic out port.

Was using EAC recording software to try to do this, but can't get in to record. I had it working at one time, but I believe I did them on my Lenovo laptop. This time I am trying to do this on my desktop system. I put the board in a few years ago. It's' a MSI brand board. I don't know what model it is but have a dual core processor on the board with the sound ports right on to the board. I have tried every imaginable combination of settings in the audio, but can't get it going.
What in the heck am I doing wrong. Could it be the USB sound card? Can't figure it out.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
martinbr

Thanks so much for this link. From there, I figured it out. Didn't dawn on me until I started reading some of the links that I could use a Zoom Recorder. Have done it in the past, and forgot all about it. I also figured out how to configure my speaker settings on a USB sound adaptor that I have been using for my headphones. Got the recording going, but still can't figure out how come my headphones won't work on the board headphones jack. Anyway, think I'm going over to Best Buy or Fry's to get a external sound card to put in a slot to bypass the on board sound card. Now I can record all those old ancient audios that I have laying around. :)
