Hi all,

Feeling dumb old guy here. I replaced a failed hard drive on an HP Pavillion NB with a refurb drive. My unit came without a disk so went to MS site and downloaded win 10 on a stick/ The computer boots up to a blank page with HP logo and starts disk repair. The gives a choice to shut down or go to advanced options. I've gone thru all of it plus started in f2, f12 etc, nothing I do gets the system to recognize the stick.

Suggestions would really be appreciated, going at it since 5 a:m and skipped my nap.

Thanks,

Will

There should be a key you can hit during the restart/bootup that will give you a boot menu. Try F8, F10, F11 or see if the laptop manual tells you what it is.
If you haven't already tried it, go into the BIOS and there should be a boot order option.

Try F9 (hit it repeatedly during boot-up). I found a reference to F9 for Pavilion laptop (don't know what model), but it might work.

Yo Chris.

you're f9 response led me to a thread that had the answer later on, the terminology "USB Diskette" threw me and many other people off. I was at that point many times and didn't see any nomenclature I was looking for. The solutions is as follws, many thanks for sticking with me!

"1. Shutdown the PC

2. Press the Power button and keep tapping F10

3. You will get to the BIOS screen

4. Navigate to "System Configuration"

5. Click on Boot Options

6. In UEFI Boot order please move the "USB Diskette" option to topmost in the list

7. Press F10 and save changes and Exit

8. Let the Unit restart and if the USB is plugged in it should boot from the USB automatically without any user intervention"
