[SOLVED] Trying to restore files from Seagate hard drive

What does it mean when disk utility first aid shows my external drive is partistioned in Linux

First let me say that I am a computer numbskull. I first set it up on a PC. That crashed and I now have a Mac. I would completely reformat it, but there are files on it I need. I don't know how it was set up, I just did what it told me. When I do the First Aid thing with my Mac now, it shows me a partition bar that appears to be all Linux partitions. I hope that answers your question.

I've not done what you are trying to do before so proceed with caution. One method may be to use MacFuse if indeed the partitions were created by a Linux distro (flavor). However, if you formatted the drive on a PC using Windows then it is a possibility that the drive is formatted as NTFS and in that case you would need to try something different. To err on the side of caution I won't recommend a possible method until I know for sure what file system the drive is using. Could you post a screen shot of what you see in disk utility.
