Trying to save picture from an old IDE drive

The drive running windows 98 when trying to boot ScanDisk runs and gets the error "ScanDisk encountered a data error while reading the FAT on drive C. This error prevents ScanDisk from fixing this drive." I then tried to hook up the IDE drive with an SATA to IDE adapter to my Windows 10 computer, the BIOS can see the drive but it took windows a very long time to boot and the drive wasn't visible. is there another way to pull files off this drive. Thanks

You can try a USB to IDE adapter then it will show up as a USB device and you can drag them off to your other drive. I've used this to transfer my ..,ah videos. Something like this:

Get a 3.5" Hard Disk Drive enclosure with a USB connection and try that. For $10 to $15 worth the try. Install the drive in the enclosure and then use it like a flash drive

The nice thing about the adapter I have is it works with IDE, SATA, and notebook drives. That model does all 3 to IDE & SATA.and SATA notebook. I love how easy it is to use I've used it to save data and pictures on multiple types of drives for family, friends and clients.

I ordered an IDE to USB adapter will let you guys know if it worked in 8-15 days.

The adapter did work but about half of the files ended up being corrupted. Thanks for the suggestions!
