Trying to set up multiple monitor display

I have been using two Dell p2314h and they worked no problem. I have just purchased two u2414h's and I cant seem to get them both working. One woks no problem with a Display port to mini display port. Then i just purchased a HDMI to mini display port and it will not work. My graphics card is a GTX 660 so all that I have to work with is a HDMI and display port as these monitors will not take typical VGA cables. Any suggestions?

I think it's the HDMI-to-miniDisplayPort cable that's causing the problem. it's probably a 'passive' one when what you need is an 'active' one similar to this one (depending on which end needs to male and which female): http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters%C2%AE-Plated-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B00EDT0072
