So i just recently bought a Netgear NightHawk router and i just cant get internet on it. think its mainly because its clashin with the other Netgear Modem/Router its connected into. the model of the modemrouter is a netgear DGND3700.

I can get the router workin when i set it as an Access Point but than i cant adjust all the Qos settings and etc.

heard its probably something to do with DNS or somethin, If anyone can help that would be awesome,

Thanks Heaps

Hmmm, after writing my first response I actually had a quick scan through the manual and couldn't find anything relating to that setting. Someone tried to do it here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2139216
They were given some advice but never posted back to say if it worked or not (don't do that on this thread! 🙂

Depending on how much you value your time, you might just be better off buying a cheap Modem and save yourself the hassle. Assuming you're talking about a ADSL2+ modem, this TPLink is $25 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825165003
It should do the job. FWIW (anecdotal) I've used heaps of TP-Link stuff now and always been satisfied. Their GUI's are pretty messy and far from intuitive, but all...
QoS is a routing feature, it's used to balance or prioritise traffic between different networks. An AP simply exists to function like a switch, simply facilitating traffic between devices on the same network. It's no surprise that placing the NightHawk in AP mode disables QoS.

What you want to do is set your Modem Router to function as a Modem ONLY, and then connect the Internet port of your Nighthawk to the Netgear (now just) Modem. That will allow the Nighthawk to function as your router with all the features (including QoS) enabled.

Most Modem/Routers can be configured as a simple modem. Post back if you can't find those settings on your device.

Given you just need a simple set-and-forget model (the NightHawk router will store all the config & connection info), it's not a bad option.
