I have a friend who got a free computer from his wifes work. Its a dell server XEON 3.0Ghz....

He went and purchased some Crucial memory ddr2, and he just get beeps. The Crucial is rated for 1.8v... so I think we are good there.

The current memory has this info, mt18htf6472dy 512mb 2rx8 pc2 3200 r-333-11-b0

The first part brings up this web page from Micron http://www.micron.com/products/partdetail?part=MT18HTF6472DY-40E

Can he stick regular ddr2 memory in there, or must he purchase specific server type memory...

Thanks for any insight..

RDIMM refers to a type of buffered memory for servers. I believe it may be compatible with normal memory, but not sure. You should search for info on the motherboard, it might shed some light on this.

Wasn't ECC something else? I believe so, although can't remember for sure.
