The issue Im having is that my monitor goes straight into sleep mode with VGA no input signal.

Ive tried uninstalling the ATI 4200 graphics card drivers and disabling it, through windows
Ive tried disabling the ATI 4200 through Safe Mode start up
Ive checked BIOS and PCI-E is on for Display (On Board is off)
Ive checked all my connectors and made sure that the card was slotted correct
I have both PCI-E connectors plugged into both of the 6 prong plugs on the new Radeon HD 6870
Ive tried to download the new drivers from AMD for the Radeon HD 6870 before switching the graphic cards around

The Radeon HD 6870 is getting power because the fan is coming on for it, but I still cant get the monitor to come on when computer powers up, shows VGA with no input signal.

Im really confussed on why this isnt working, I thought with the card plugged in and no drivers from the old card on my computer that Windows 7 would pick up the new card and then would ask for a driver update/install.

Anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to get this to work, its really driving me crazy

Yes, I plugged it into the 6870 card port and not the old port. I do have to use an adaptor for the 6870 port though, it has 2 DVI ports and no VGA so I have to use the VGA to DVI adaptor that came with the card

No they are different types of DVI ports, on the right side of the ports one has the 2 prongs on top with a slash in the middle and 2 prongs below, the other port is just a slash on the right side...sorry not sure what the technical terms are for the ports style

The adapter I have has the 2 progs on top and bottom with the slash between them

the cord I have for the monitor is for a VGA port, the card came with an adaptor but it can only plug into 1 port..from the site you linked it would be the one with the Analog ports ( the diagram showes a + sign with a plug in all 4 corners of the +)...the adaptor wont fit into the other port on the card

@ Scout_03 sorry for the bad discription of the port used on the 6870 card...it is the DVI-I (Dual Link) the the adaptor fits in...the other port is the DVI-D (Dual Link) and the adaptor wont fit in to that

Im just tired and frustrated that this wont work..lol..I figured it would be easy..I havent upgraded a graphics card in a long time but the last time I done it on a old computer it was easy, just uninstal drivers of old card, plug in new card, turn on computer and windows asked for the driver for the new card, pop in cd that came with card and that was that...this one I just can figure out

Are you saying when I connect my monitor to the DVI-I port on the graphics card, hit the source button on the bottom of my monitor and it might switch me from VGA to the DVI? Right now I have the old Card and PSU in the computer (thats how Im getting on to the forums) and I hit the source button at the bottom of my monitor but no menu came up, it just showed No Signal and then came back to regular screen

I only have the on VGA connector cable and a VGA to DVI-I adaptor

Or do I need to buy a different monitor connection cable that has a DVI-I male end on it?

Ok, what I think your are telling me is that I need to plug a DVI cord into my monitor and use it to connect to the DVI ports on my Radeon 6870, once I do this I may need to hit the Source button on the bottom of my monitor to switch it from VGA to DVI?

The monitor that I have is from an old computer, I dont have a CD for it.
I been useing this monitor with the new computer I have for about 9 months now and never had to use a CD to use it.

Do you think that I might need to get a new monitor to use with the new video card?
