Hi! I am a musician/producer and I want to upgrade my PC for production and sound engineering since my DAW can't handle all the tracks I put in my projects. Would these parts be compatible/effective?

Motherboard - MSI Meg X570 Unify
CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600x
GPU - GTX 1660
RAM - Patriot Viper Steel 2x16
+1tb SSD
+1tb Hard Drive

Current setup:

Motherboard - ASRock 970 Performance
CPU - AMD FX 6300 six-core
GPU - GTX 1660
RAM - unknown brand 1x8 + 2x4
+500gb SSD
+1tb hard drive

Thank you!

Hi

speaking from experience (i have some friends who are producers)

What you need:

as powerful a cpu as your budget allows (this is the most important part of the pc for music production)
at least 16 gb of fast ram
mobo is not really important as you should use an external soundcard for best results
GPU is irrelevant

also, could you give us a budget and location?

For the motherboard, I prefer the X570 Tomahawk. Feature wise it is similar to the Unify but it is a lot cheaper. What 1 TB SSD are you planning to get?
I’m not sure what SSD I want to get yet as I haven’t looked too far into it. Could I run two different 500gb SSDs or would I need to just upgrade to the 1tb?

I want to stay under $400 for each part and I’m in Detroit! :)

4 more cores, 8 more threads.
Will destroy the 5600X in pretty much any task.
With this motherboard you will be able to overclock it to 5GHz stable.
I put a good cooler for it too.
2x16GB ram as wished.
A fast M.2 seems to be a requirement these days.
And a 1tb hdd.
Keep the GPU.
What psu do you have?
What case do you have?

I have an old Thermal Master and I’m not sure about the power supply but it was a cheap one that worked with my AMD FX

First, thank you so much for the help. Second, why would you recommend I get the MPG instead of the MEG? Also. is it necessary to buy a separate cooling unit than the one on the CPU?

Second, why would you recommend I get the MPG instead of the MEG?
-Its a different chipset, for a different cpu.
The one you mentioned is MSI MEG X570 Unify, which is meant for AMD's Ryzen processors.
The one i linked is MSI MPG Z490 ACE, which is meant for Intel's 10th and 11th gen processors.
is it necessary to buy a separate cooling unit than the one on the CPU?
- i9 10850K doesnt come with a cooler, you need to buy your own.

ok, thank you. And for this PC build, what case/power supply would you recommend? (I also would like to make the setup as quiet as possible as I will be recording near my computer)
