Trying to Use Monitor for Laptop with Broken Screen, Nothing Displays

I have been consistently using an old Windows 10 laptop with a broken screen by plugging it into a monitor via HDMI. I was attempting to start fresh and erase the computer's files, but the computer went in sleep mode while this happened. I turned the computer off, and the next day, attempted to try again. Now, the computer will power on, but nothing is displayed on the monitor. The button LEDs on the laptop, particularly a network connectivity button, keep switching from orange to white every 30 seconds or so. I have tried using different outputs, such as VGA, and have still been unsuccessful. I have entered a variety of key combinations with no luck whatsoever. Occasionally, I see a faint flicker from the screen. I can assure you that there are no internal component issues, only display. How do I fix this? I was planning on waiting for an hour or so and trying again but I would appreciate quick results. Thanks!

On most laptops they have a button combo, usually fn+f7 to switch displays. If this doesn't work and you can get into the laptops screen, disconnect the cable that connects the laptops screen and that will force it to switch displays.

I don't think it has to do with the laptop's display, I think it's more of an issue involving the reboot after trying to erase the computer's contents. Could something have gone wrong along the way? I am considering rebooting from a usb to see if that helps.

It's not very likely, the more likely answers are the display is not automatically configuring itself to use the HDMI output, or it's trying but without user input you cant see it wont proceed. Disconnecting the laptop display will simply force it to use the HDMI.
