If you guys don't mind I need some input validated from an Asus chat, I wan't to purchase the http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/z170-a/CT8375339 for my Asus Z170-A motherboard, mainly for the aesthetics but I also don't want to lose the performance. Per my chat, they said that its not supported, but Crucial says it is:

Hello <user>, thank you for contacting ASUS support. Please give me a few moments to review your information. I will be with you shortly.
Hi <user>, how may I assist you? 07:39:17 pm

I was told I have to use specific memory for my Z170-A. I wanted to use the Ballsitoc LT Sport 16GB (8GB*2) for the aesthetics (White), but was told it wont work. Memory here: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/bls2k8g4d240fsck

Please find the list of compatible memory for your motherboard.
And I am sorry to inform you that your motherboard is not compatible with BLS2K8G4D240FSCK.

<user> 07:46:55 pm

So what if Crucial's website says otherwise: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/z170-a/CT8375339
I am just trying to compare results. 07:47:13 pm

<agent> 07:50:45 pm

I am sorry, <user> as per asus compatible list memory is not available the QVL list.

<agent> 07:51:55 pm

For sure the memory will work but you would see some performance and speed wise variation on the motherboard.
Its recommended to have memory from the QVL list. 07:52:56 pm

<user> 07:53:03 pm

Interesting, good to know. Thank you (ᵔᴥᵔ)

<agent> 07:53:21 pm

In order to avoid performance and speed issue.

Please make sure that you change memory timing as per memory QVL list.
For better performance. 07:54:10 pm

<user> 07:55:16 pm

I think that will do for now, thank you so much! You were impeccable! (✿´‿`)

<agent> 07:55:25 pm

You are welcome.
Thank you for choosing ASUS. Have a great day!

<user> 07:56:24 pm

Happy Festivus or Merry Christma-Hanu-Kwanza!!

<agent> 07:56:31 pm

Wish you the same, <user>.

I'd say it is supported as even the ASUS Agent said it would work, but for the sake of ASUS technical support, they would only recommend using what's on their QVL list. Otherwise, you'd have just about every tech head calling / chatting in wondering, why so-and-so memory kit is not showing up as the advertised speed; overwhelming tech support. This way, they can just say, it's not on the QVL and you should confine your purchase selections to the QVL.

As for the speed/performance issues, I seriously doubt you or anyone would notice without actually performing testing and looking at the results. In everyday usage, you wouldn't notice.

So overall, If I wanted it for aesthetics, it wouldnt affect me playing games like wow, bf1, dead space 3 or just cause 3? I'm not the overclocker type, but I do have an Intel 6600K i5 that I purchased.
