Tuniq Tower Defeated Again: IFX-14

Thermalright is going after Tuniq hard, first the 120+ and now this:

Its two Ultra 120's mashed together, only this cooler uses 8mm heatpipes.

Saw it earlier today. Wonder how cool it would make my FX60? Unfortunately, I probably still couldn't get over 3.2 ghz, just a cold 3.2 ghz. Oh AMD, when are you going to release a faster cpu?

Nah, a single 120 weights slightly less then the tuniq (about 50g). So two of them should weight a little less the double the tuniq.

What I took from anand's article was that the s-flex fans were quiet. Moved a lot of air, but quietly...

Back to the discussion at hand.. Apt263, do you think a fan fits between the two tower modules, like the Tuniq?

Yeah, its in the case, i still need another video card though... One of the screws on my tuniq tower decided to break, so I need to get a new one. Instead of getting a replacement im going to take the advice from a guy on XtremeSystems and use machine screws and wing nuts.

@Stefx: Apt263? Not sure, but its makes the most sence. This is a massive hsf, only being able to add fans on the outside would be a waste of that space between the tower towers.

Actually the IFX-14 weighs in at 790g, for the heatsink only, whereas the Tuniq Tower weighs in at 798g, heatsink only.

Thats just for the front hsf, whatever that is. The back one weights an additional 130g.

The main difference between the 120 and the 120+ is the number of cooling tubes...

Now count the tubes on the ixf.

I'm no expert in thermodynamics, but I would have thought that the overall surface area of the cooler pipes would have more bearing than the internal volume...

Well, anandtech will hopefully get around to testing it. I'll stick with the 120+ for my new build for now.

The Thermalright 120 is a 4 heat pipe cooler, the 120 Extreme(+) is 6 heat pipe cooler. Which is one of the reasons why the 120 Extreme will cool better than the Tuniq Tower and the regular 120. I doubt this design will cool that much better than the Tuniq Tower and will most likely cool very similiarly to the 120 Extreme but its lack of 2 additional heatpipes could result in slightly lower performance.

Would you rather have 6 smaller heatpipes or 4 slightly larger heatpipes.
The only other big difference that could effect the performance is that the IFX-14 will allow for a 140mm fan while the 120 Extreme will only allow a 120mm fan. This could in the end be the deciding factor in how well they perform.

Also is anyone else wondering what that "backside heat pipe cooler" is? Check it out its as if it comes with the IFX-14 but i have no clue where or how you would use it.

the backside cooler is used underneath the mobo to cool it some more

Its not out yet, so no one knows yet.
