OK, i've got 2 hdd + I like to keep my PC on most of the day.

Currently I have the hdd's set to turn off after 30 mins.My question is: is it better to just leave them on all the time or have them turn off like I have them set to do? my concern is to not wear them out. any input greatly appreciated  .

Better to leave them spinning. More damage is done by spinning up/down.

yup... all the time is best.
hard drive lifetimes are rated in stop/start cycles,
and that will happily chew thru them at a great rate
along with the stress caused by spinning up and down, their temperature also fluctuates.

better to be constantly on, constant temp, ready for action! :)
