Hello Everyone,

I’ve had this problem on my pc for a few hours now. I cleaned the inside of it with some compressed air and I jiggled the cpu cooler around and we’ll something happened.

My pc now turns it self off and I think it’s due to over heating... I have some thermal paste, should I apply some?(I haven’t done it in like 2 years)

I should add, it does boot to OS but one is really laggy and two it’ll shut it self off if I do too much.

Solution
I would advise a cooler remount at this point. Since the cooler was moved, the compound is no longer making good contact to CPU heatspreader. Fresh compound is a good idea. Fans spinning correctly?
Hey Liquid,

cheers for the answer, that helped. I went and got a new cooler today that I can use on my new build. I looked at the old cooler and the socket (1155) the plastic pushclips, one had snapped so obviously, it didn't become mounted very well.

Thanks for the help mate.

Glad to hear the news, though it did cost you a new cooler. The behavior and symptoms you described are consistent with overheating heating issues as a possible cause, and since you mentioned a broken pushpin, that was the cause. Still, glad to help and you are up and running again.
