Turning normal pc to gaming pc

I have a hp pavilion p6000 and I want to add a dedicated graphics card and 2 4gb sticks of ram. I have a budget of 500 dollars. My mother board is. H-RS880-uATX (Aloe) what would i need to do/upgrade to make it run heavy games like prear3d and beam ng?

What CPU is in your computer? Another thing to consider is that most HP, Dell, etc desktops have very low watt power supplies and many use proprietary sized one.

AMD Athlon II X2 2.9GHz
I was thinking about upgrading it to the amd phenom ii x4 950

What games are you trying to play? I'm asking because that system is very old and the CPU(including the one you want to upgrade to) are well below minimum requirements on lots of new games. You are better off saving up some more money and starting over again with a new PC.

Beam ng, xplane 11, American truck simulator, more games like those

I remember my nephew playing Beam NG on an old Athlon X4 I used to have. If I recall correctly, the system had 16gb ddr3 & a gtx 760 ti video card. The game seemed to handle just fine at 1080p on that system.
