I upgraded my computer about a year ago now, new MB, processor, ram, and power supply. Ever since I have been occasionally(once every few weeks) been getting BSOD or my computer will just suddenly restart itself. Today I was thinking about it and realized I had turned on XMP when I upgraded. Assuming this was the issue I went into the bios and turned it off. Upon restarting the computer I was able to log in to windows then everything froze couldn't move my mouse and the keyboard didn't work. So I powered down and restarted. Again the same thing. So I turned it off went into the bios and turned XMP back on. After one failed restart everything seems to be working fine. Any ideas why this would happen? I've heard of this when turning on XMP but never when turning it off.

Might be that the bios sets the spd values wrong and why you get that. Shouldn't happen since that is why the spd values are there (so that ram will work at any board),
