Question tv converter box has no sound

I have an Ematic at103 converter box, which does, indeed produce a nice recorded video from my tv. The problem is that there is no sound output,that I can hear. The sound information does go to the tv but it is all digital. I hear nothing in my headphones, before or after I hit the record button. Connecting the headphones directly to the rca audio jack on the box produced no sound at all. However, the end result of the video saved to my flash drive was very good, sound and all. Any suggestions are welcome.

maybe it is only meant to have one output at a time. (Try hooking it up by rca only and disconnect the hdmi cable).
