TV - HDMI cable - PC - Record?

Hi,

I'm trying to record video game footage from my TV but before I go out and spend money on a capture device I was wondering whether or not this would work:

My GPU (ATI 4850) has both a HDMI output (Connect to the TV) and a DVI (Connect to my monitor). I was wondering if there was some software I could use to record what was going on on my TV using my PC.

At the moment the only connections between your PC to the TV are outputs, to record on the PC you will need to input a signal or data stream into the PC and this can't be done over the HDMI that you are currently using as that is an output (from the PC) only.

Check and see if any dvr's have a hdmi input.
Does your tv have any video outs?
