TV in one room, computer in another?

Hi there. I am about to build a computer that will have the dual purpose of:

1) Being connected to my primary TV in the living room so that I can watch video from the couch, etc

2) Serving as my main computer for doing work from home (which needs to be communicating with my monitor/keyboard at my desk, which is in an upstairs room.)

Conceptually, what I essentially want is two sets of monitors (TV here in one instance)/ keyboards which are in two different rooms hooked up to the same computer.

Is there any easy way to do this without running cables upstairs? It doesn't matter if the computer lives upstairs or downstairs with the TV (that would be preferred, actually).

I can't imagine that my current wireless keyboard would be able to communicate from upstairs (but maybe there is a better solution?), and I guess I would need some sort of wireless display adapter.

Is there any simple solution that would work from upstairs / downstairs?

Please be kind - clearly, I am clueless.

Well they make bluetooth keyboards and they have chromecast and other devices that basically do wireless HDMI. But Bluetooth doesn't have the range the wireless does. the Chromecast uses wireless. I do something similar with my laptop but I keep the HDMI cable always connected and when i want to project to the TV i just plug it in.

All this really depends on what TV you're running, and what capabilities are enabled (as some manufacturers do limit features for certain models). If you're working with one of the Smart TVs, you can easily do WiFi streaming, and use the remote to navigate for videos streamed over the network. Using a keyboard/mouse, though, is going to be the major rub.

In all honesty, your best bet would be to hook up a cheap HTPC to your TV, and share your files over your home WiFi network, which then would negate the problem of using a keyboard on a different level of your house.
