So, the only difference is quality of image? What if I am okay with the lower quality of the TV? Will the TV monitor still do all my computer monitor will do - other than have more pixels? I find that computer monitors are often too small for what I like to do, like compare Excel files.

the tv doesnt have any more pixels. the pixels are just larger. this is why the image quality is lower.

a 1080p tv and a 1080p monitor have the same amount of pixels.

think of it this way. take a photograph.. it looks good. blow it up on a printer to 400% size and it looks less sharp but its larger. same thing with tvs and monitors.

i personally use a 40" 1080p 60hz television for my primary monitor and it works out great.

edit... too small to compare excell files? you mean you have trouble seeing the small text? in which case a big screen is better for you.

if you want more pixels instead of splitting the pixels you already have between two windows... perhaps you should instead look at a 2560x1600 monitor such as the dell3011. you get a sharpness between a tv and monitor but you get a higher resolution. expensive though.
