TV or Monitor for mac/xbox

I was hoping people could help me here. I have a macbook pro and an xbox 360 and i was not sure wether i should get a tv or a 2560x1440 monitor. I need a 2560x1440 monitor for my mac as quite frequently, i need the extra 'real estate' to work and i have used an imac and have found it much easier. The need for this is not very frequent however happens often enough. I also have an xbox 360. For the same price as the monitor, i can buy a good large TV for my xbox. I am not sure which i should buy, especially as if i plug the xbox into the monitor, i will not be able to use the full resolution, but only some of the monitor at 1080p as it does not have scalers.

If it were me, I would go with the monitor. Your work is what allows you to be able to afford to play your Xbox, so should take priority. Even if there's some letterboxing when playing the 360, it'll annoy you for a week or two, and then you'll learn to filter out the black bars and focus only on the game display.
