Hello everyone, recently i have purchased a new pc. Now i am thinking of getting a new monitor. But my friend told me it would be wise to purchase a 32" 3D TV instead of a 27" monitor. But i have heard there are some complications with TV as a monitor.Mostly i do watch movies n play games but honestly i don't have much idea with these (like fps) stuff. Will u guys please suggest me which one will be better ?

  • Monitor - Asus VX279H
  • TV - Sony 32 inch HX750 Series BRAVIA Full HD 3D TV (KDL-32HX750)
  • TV - Samsung Series 6 32inch F6400 LED TV
Price doesn't differ that much in between 27" monitor & 32" TV.I am using Asus gtx 780ti directcu ii as my gpu.

Get the monitor. TV's have bad response time and are not really suitable for PC gaming. The monitor will probably have a better picture too, as it's an IPS panel. Just be aware that while IPS panels have better viewing angles and color, their response time is a bit higher than TN panels, but unless you are playing really fast paced twitch shooters and are really good at them, it won't matter.

TLDR: Monitor

Yeah that's another thing I forgot to touch on. TV's are made to viewed from a distance, while a monitor is the clear choice if you are sitting at a desk and using a mouse and keyboard with your pc like most people.

Thank u guys for the reply. I will go for the monitor then. One more question abt the monitor. Which will be the best monitor for gaming n watching movies.I am looking for a 27" monitor.

Sorry ChrisR83 what do u mean by "if you have the computer to push out 100+ FPS" ? Is there any 27" Asus monitor with 144hz ?

Sorry I didn’t see you had a 780ti installed until after I posted. I just meant that if your computer is only running around 60 frames per second, a 144hz monitor isn’t going to do much for you. ASUS also has a 144hz 27”.

An added bonus to the VG248QE is that you can buy it with G-sync already installed, or you can get a DIY kit for $200 right now (I am sure the price will start going down with time), I do not know if the G-sync is compatible with the VG278Q.

The short version. G-sync matches your monitors refresh with the FPS your GPU is pushing out, it completely eliminates screen tearing with little to no input lag, unlike Vsync that locks your FPS to one setting like 60fps, causing more input lag, and you will also get frame drops below 60 causing shuttering.

IMO the VG278HE is a great choice, once you start playing at 144hz you will never want to play on a 60hz monitor again. Enjoy the new monitor!

I use both and I cant see a difference in game play but were are you gouing to get a 46 inch monitor for what I 46 inch tv costs?? plus its a tv so now you got duel use. and for the response times you can check that in the specs. to see what it will do just like a plain old monitor it varies from brand model to brand model could be 2ms or could be 10ms you got to check each one out to see . ya I prefer the 46'' hdtv over the 24'' monitor now I just wish it was 60''

Thank u guys for all the great suggestions. At last i have made my decision.I will go for the monitor. As i mostly play games n watch movies which one will give me better performance? Asus VX279H or Asus VG278HE ? Though i can see there is already big difference with the Contrast Ratio & Viewing Angle in between these 2.

wow I was looking at that VG278HE at egg and for 380 bucks for 27'' and nothing but a monitor , I cant see it for that money i'll just stick to a hdtv. but this is why theres a lot of different types of hardware out there the thing to do is go to a bust buy type store and see what they got on a running display and look things over. and see if they will hook up there display monitors to check there picture quality out and viewing angles.

The reason it costs so much is because it has a 144hz refresh. I would go with the VG278HE, it’s GTG is faster, and has 144hz refresh. Since you are running a 780 ti and are going to get high frame rates, you may as well go for the high refresh monitor so you are able to see all those extra frames your GPU is pushing out.
