TV out help?

ola group,
I'm putting together a new system and looking at nVidia cards. I'm on a
budget (-1500) and don't want to buy a monitor as I have access to a 60"
hitachi rear projector tv (4 years old, not hd) My question is... does
anyone have experience with the dvi/tv out on nVidia cards under $300? I've
read here and there that resolution can be poor for text, etc. w/tv out. Is
a scan converter the answer? Can anyone help me here? Suggest another ng if
not? I plead my ignorance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Text from tv out is generally poor. However, if your projector will accept
that signal from the DVI output, then that's not considered TV out and if
it accepts a decent resolution signal, you should be okay.

Thanks Larry,
Your experience seems to have confirmed my worries,
I had hoped that the bigger-better-faster-more cards would
make a difference but I'm gathering from this that it is the tv
that is the limiting factor.
I'll be doing some gaming, so will want as full immersion as possible
in the experience, but mostly would be using a large display
(might go to lcd projector) for movies and viewing my
work. (composite 3d/dv/artified real-life 'animations' and music videos)

Thanks a million for your input. It was valuable to me.

Projection TV or any TV will be your limiting factor. Reason is due to TV
resolution. You can feed it DVI / Fiber Optic or anything direct will do no
good.
Simply you can not force a pinto car with high octane or jet fuel and expect
to run fast as a sport car [general speaking].

Thanks... I'm coming to the conclusion that I should just keep one of my old
monitors and keep saving $ for lcd projector for the big stuff. I want it, I
need it... big sound, big screen, full immersion.

Demos faulty? I do not know if demos is faulty or other thing that is / are
contribute to it.
TV as a monitor? The only time I want my TV to become as monitor if I want
to watch movies / presantation and such but not as primary to replace my PC
monitor. I can not afford good TV monitor to have a good acceptable viewing.

Once you've experienced a data-grade front projector you won't want to go
back. And they get better every year. Only downside is that $500 light
bulb.

I guess that's 25 cents an hour if it burns for 2000, not bad!

What would you consider data-grade? Could you give me a couple of examples
to study... price range etc. Just a brand and model would be helpful, I'll
sleuth 'em. I had 1500 budgeted (30 month plan @+/-$300 per month for
complete 'electronic arts studio') Am I in the ballpark?

An HDTV can output 1280x720 or 1920x1080 (interlaced). With a DVI signal
feeding it, the picture ought to look fantastic.

Most of them do Cap. Maybe the problem you are seeing is a video card that
will properly output 1080i to an HDTV.
