I recently received a 26" HDTV that is capable of 1080p. The computer recognizes the fact that it is digital through a DVI > HDMI cable. But it only goes up to 1080i. Also it makes the screen's resolution unbearable and i've tinkered with many thing trying to resolve this. Though when I hook up my xbox with the component cables. I can set it to 1080p no problem and the tv will show that it is truly in 1080p. I have an NVIDIA 8600 GT with 2 DVI out's and an S-Video out. What could be the reason that it won't recognize it. I would like to know if i'm doing something wrong before I go out and buy a video card with HDMI ports.

You should check on the back and look at which hdmi part you are using....my LG plasma has two hdmi ports on the back and under one it lists dvi....which can mean it only supports dvi conversions...i dunno im probably wrong...

Wait...what kind of 26" are you using...some nvidia cards have a problem with edid on monitors...i can't run hdmi out to my lg 22" via my 260 gtx because of the edid of my monitor...there is actually a guide i found via google that you can try...all you do is pull one of the pins out of the dvi plug that sends the edid information...it will say your tv is a generic monitor and it will let you use any resolution etc...

Any time my 22" tried running in 1080i it looked like ass....but thats probably because of the edid glitch..this guy needs to see if his tv does this as well...there are fixes if you can find em...

I would think that before he goes about pulling pins from dvi cables he should make 100% sure his TV supports 1080p in the first place. If he knows for sure that it does maybe he should try using powerstrip to make a custom monitor inf file that sets it to ignore edid instead of pulling pins out of a cable.
