Hi guys, I have a y510p that I've been trying to output on my 1080p Sherwood HDTV via HDMI (pretty unknown and generic brand).

Setting it to 1080p yields an "Out of Range" notification on the display and lowering it to 30Hz doesn't work either. I have to output at 720p or 1080i at 30Hz just to get an image and I've also tried this on every HDMI port.

My brothers Zenbook, using the same HDMI cable and port can output 1080p at 60Hz on the TV which for me is frustrating because I have two gfx cards in this laptop.

My specs:
Lenovo Y510P laptop
OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit
CPU: i7-4700mq (2.4GHz, ~3.4GHz Turbo)
GPU: 750M x2 (In SLI)
GPU Drivers: 382.33 (Latest)
TV: Sherwood LF-46ITK5 46" LCD 1080p

Hey tothergnome, I have the SLI version which does not use Intel graphics and I have tried the HDMI cable already with my brothers laptop.

Connect your laptop to the TV. There are 2 ways. (1) Go to Control Panel then to Display then select Project to a second screen and finally select project to second screen only.
(2) At your Desktop screen do a right mouse click and select screen resolution from the menu. Then on the Multiple Display bracket select "Show Desktop only on 2 (This the 2nd screen which should be your (TV)

Trying those unfortunately yields no positive results. But, connecting via VGA allows 1080p at 60hz, which makes me wonder about the HDMI port I'm using. Other y510p users managed to get even higher resolutions at higher refresh rates so I'm really at a loss here.

Its coming up as "Display device on: HDMI", while on my brothers Zenbook it comes up as "Digital Television"

Try changing your resoloution, and try scaling up your TV to fit your PC. I suggest 720P.
