Twin Turbo mode's purpose

I'm having a hard time understanding what the twin turbo mode does for my Core i7-740QM mobile processor on my Asus G73JH. From what I understand so far it increases one of the cores to 2.9ghz during heavy load? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I don't know about "Twin Turbo," but Intel's Turbo Boost Technology will indeed increase the CPU speed as it needs more performance. Especially in laptops, you want to save all the power you can, so by leaving the CPU slower at idle and low usage it saves you a lot of battery life.
