So im currently upgrading parts in my pc and right now i have a 6GB 1060 but i want some more power to play games at higher quality. Is it better getting another identical card. Or to sell my current card and buy a 1070 ti?

Solution
The 1060 isn't able to SLI, so there's no way to go at that direction.

Get the 1070Ti if the price is good, otherwise the 1080.
Nevertheless, if you own a 1080p 60Hz monitor you won't notice the difference.
Also, if changing the in-game settings isn't doing anything to your games performance, perhaps you have a bottleneck in your system.

Nevertheless, two 1060 is a no-go.

1060's do not support SLI (natively), so your only real option is to rely on DX12's Explicit Multi-Adapter.
Given the still limited number of true DX12 titles, and the fact only a tiny amount can use EMA...

A single, stronger card would be the smartest upgrade path. Whether it's a 1070TI/1080/1080TI or even a 1070, that's going to yield greater gains overall.

The theoretical "SLI" of 1060's would suggest it would rival a single 1080..... but in practice, it's not achievable.

What cpu do you have, what games you want to play.
If you have a i7 coffeelake the 1070 t would be a better choice for ultra at higher resolutions with more than 60 fps.
Most likely two 1060 isn't worth it because not a lot of game takes advantage on sli and you better have good coolling system because of the extra heat.

see this is why i always ask on these forums first haha i had no clue. I have a 144hz monitor, my cpu is bottlenecking me currently as i have a 7600 and ive been told it shouldnt be bottlenecking my card, but i do alot of multitasking whilst gaming usually watching a stream with extra tabs open.

I have a i5 7600 but im going to be ordering a 7700k within the next few weeks, i also mainly play overwatch, rainbow 6 mainly shooters really

It's not possible to actually join two GTX 1060s in SLI. But under DX12 and Windows 10 you can run a Multi GPU setup but titles are limited that support this and it works better with 1 AMD card and 1 Nvidia of around the same level.

Here are a few older reviews that show you this.

https://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/DX12-Multi-GPU-scaling-and-running-Deus-Ex-Mankind-Divided

Here is what I have found that support this... it's not many and I didn't run a MGPU setup long enough to test more games.
Ashes
Deus Ex Mankind Divided
Hitman
Gears of War 4
Civ 6
Halo Wars 2
BF1
Project Cars

what mother board do you have? if you don't have a motherboard with a Z170/270 chipset then you will not be able to take full advantage of the K version of that CPU

actually, if you don't have a motherboard with a Z series chipset you won't be able to do SLI at all

The GTX 1060 does not feature any SLI fingers since two 1060's in SLI will outperform a 1080 for a cheaper price-tag. If you want better quality option freedom then I suggest a couple of options:

1) Sell the 1060 and put the money towards a 1070ti (1070ti is very close to the 1080 and if you are competent with overclocking you can match the performance for a slightly cheaper price).
2) Buy 1 GTX 1080/1080ti or wait for the 11 series cards and get the 1170 or 1160.

My own personal opinion would be to sell the 1060 and buy 1 1070ti. Up to you. Good luck :)

I have ASUS® STRIX B250H GAMING im guessing i should upgrade this? my motherboards come up in conversation a lot now about how it limits my build

correct, you can only do overclocking with an Intel K series CPU and SLI supported NVIDIA GPU's with a Z series motherboard. however, your motherboard does support multiple AMD GPU's via crossfire

Yeah theres been alot of suggestions that my motherboard isnt really a great one. But its the part i look least foward to upgrading 🙁

multi GPU setups are getting less relevant anyway. you're better off saving cash by going for one 1070/1080 GPU and then get the non K version of the i7 7700

Is the 7700 just as good as the 7700k? like if i had a 7700 and upgraded to a 7700k would i feel the difference?

IMHO, no.
Not unless you're willing to overclock the 7700K. If both will be left at stock speeds, then the upgrade boost won't be noticeable.

well my motherboard cant overclock so the 7700 is just a better choice for the £20 id be saving over the 7700k?

Not only £20 since you'd have to get yourself a new after-market cooler, as K CPUs don't come with one in their box.

And yeah, IMHO it's a better choice since you won't be able to overclock... And when age start to take its toll in your 7700(which will take a very good while) there will already be a lot more better CPUs avaiable for you to get.

So yea, IMHO you're fine as is.
