well since u want a high-end card wait till march and get a 7900gt or 7900gtx (suppose to be 70% faster than a 7800gtx512 sli) but if u cant absolutely wait i suggest the 7800gtx512 it alone is a beast of a card. if u dont mind ati, the ati X1900xtx (512mb) is cheaper than the 7800gtx 512 and more powerful.

Or just get this ASUS EN7800GT DUAL/2DHTV/512M Dual Geforce 7800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

It's two 7800GT GPU's on one card! 8O And supposedly only 2000 were made worldwide. Kind of crazy that one videocard can support 4 monitors! And yes you can SLI it without the bridge gap thingy

If I'd had the extra $400 I would have got one, just for the hell of it, hehe

P.S. it's extremely large too, notice how much is over hangs where the screw goes in for the slot in the back of a case. And comes with it's own external power cord! It's thirsty, that way it can draw straight from the wall!

increable card... as for the 7800gtx 512, good luck finding one, i hear there out of stock all over, go with a x1900 or wait for 7900... finding a 7800gtx 512 under 700 is rare...

7800GS??? those are out? or are u bsing us 😛 if they are whats the price tag on those? and if i had an sli board id keep it and get 2 7800gt's just due to the fact that reinstalling another mobo, reappling the cpu is a pain and im lazy :)

I voted 2 7800GT. :)

Definitely 2 7800GT will out perform a single GTX but not all the time it depends on what games & also in resolutions. In lower resolutions a single GTX just slightly out perform the dual GT for about 6-12fps but in higher resolution mode the SLI 7800 GT can really take the full advantage, it beats the GTX for about 20-40fps.

Someone posted that he saw 7800GS at a local computer store. Someone else said there was a leak? and could get them at CompUSA?

I would say 1 7800GTX 512 it can take anything you can throw at it, and uses less power. If your PSU isn't to par you may want to go with a 1 card soultion.

Now if you wait for Nvidias next Gen card on March 4th I am sure it will dethrone the X1900XTX as the 7800GTX 512 wasn't made to compete with the 1900XTX :) it was made to smash the X1800 which it did!

Which has the best performance Two 7800 GTs or One 7800 GTX 512Mb? Also include a reason.

I'm an nvidia guy myself (I'm not a hardheaded fanboy though), but if you absolutely MUST have a vid card now--go with the ATI X1900XTX. NVIDIA fans will even agree it beats the GTX512, and most will agree it beats two GT's as well. Also ASRock has a new Crossfire mobo now (unfortunately it is an Intel socket...), so other vendors should jump on the bandwagon pretty quickley. Two X1900XTX's 'crossfired' will probably knock everyone's socks off!

Actually the 7800GTX 512MB is priced in line with the X1900XTX (in fact it's more expensive by 100USD).

The X1800XT is priced in line with a 7800GTX 256MB... therefore it's only logical that the X1800XT was intended to compete with the 7800GTX 256MB whereas the X1900XTX was mean't to compete with the 7800GTX 512MB.

They're all products released out of retaliation.

I'm not so sure. NVIDIA is unlikely to surpass ATI's flagship with the next card as it will have no new "breakthrough" technology. However it will likely be on par or possibly pass it on games "Best Played with NVIDIA". However I could be wrong, the 7900 may play BF2 at 800FPS at 1600X1200--but I believe that the next major overhaul will be GeForce 8 series, probably around mid to late summer.

The increase in memory to 512MB not all that useful with current drivers. On my 7800 GTX with 512MB, the maximum 8-bit 3D textures is still 512x512x512. While it renders faster than my 6800, the extra memory is not usable (for my app anyways). Many users like me realised this only after buying the card!
What a waste....

Not really "just" a memory increase. The GTX 512MB has faster clock speeds and faster memory. Agreed though they need to make a 256MB version of the GTX that works like the GTX512.

yea, i was looking at zipzoomfly and the bfg 7800gtx 512 was 999 bux, and on backorder... who knows when they will get more, probably not for a while and it isnt worth the money because the x1900xtx overpowers it in many apps (especially with AA and AF maxxed) the 7800gtx 512 is slow compared to the 1900xtx at max res with max filtering... but if ur not gonna run filtering and run at a lower res (1280x1024, considered the most used res) getr a single 7800gt it will run any game at that res with lower AA and AF... or save ur cash till 7900gtx and buy 2 of those beasts ur computer will be so fast itll leave skid marks (kinda like the ones in my boxers, brb i need to clean)

i believe that dual 7800gt beats the single 7800gtx512 that at high resolutions, high AA and anisotropy and high detail because two smaller engines take the load better than one single larger engine. i dunno though where could u get the almost ghost video card that 7800gtx512 is.

i'd go better for the x1800xt or the x1900xtx wich can take everirhing u throw at it. i see it doesnt get astronomically high fps but if u raise the resolution or quality or AA or anisotropy it clearly holds its ground. it has the unbelievable number of 48 pixel pipes. this gives the card the ability to maintain the fps even if u demand more. from the tests i seen it thg i saw cpu limitation, the fps in low and high settings being almost identical. what i want to say is that not even the fastest amd cpus can't keep up with x1900xtx. it's so fast that in 1024x768 in farcry, doom3 and hl2 it outputs the same fps wether it is with or without AA and AF, wether it is cross fire or not. at 1600x1200 the card starts to work at full power but not even there the fps from no aa and af to max aa and af isn't that much lowered.

ati go go go! very glad because u brought to us an exceptional video card. in ati Xx00 family the x300 and x600 and x700 were no match for 6200 and 6600 and 6600gt. the only card that smacked nvidia was X8xx series making it an nvidia round. hope the X1000 family to be a ati round. glad to have u back! :)
