[SOLVED] Two 931gb disk in Diskpart

I'm trying to format a raw hard drive that got damaged, but after list the disk there's a Disk 0 of 931gb and a Disk 1 of 931gb, the only difference I see is an asterisk after the GPT

How do I know which one is the external hard drive and no the windows os?

The disk is so broken that makes disk management run slow, i've been running it for about 15 minutes and it just loading disk info and not showing anything, I will leave it some more time.

Well, the Disk 0 or 1 designation does not change if you disconnect one.
So, disconnect the external
Boot up.
See what diskpart shows.

Reconnect the external drive. Run CrystalDiskInfo again and identify the serial numbers.

I got an error message about some hardware failure after entering "clean" command.

That's the external drive. Its Read Error Rate attribute has fallen below the threshold, so the drive is really sick.

IMO there is no point in trying to format it. I would take it out of service, even though the Power On Hours is only 314. :-(

Yes, it's pretty new and more than half of that time was me running the data recovery software...
So sad, well I will keep trying to maybe do something, I can use it for movies if I can work something out.

I don't know about the warranty, it's kinda old, I will try to change the disk inside with another 1tb I have laying around

The 'disk' inside IS the problem.
Swapping the drive for another one is....replacing the drive.

It wont work because the hard drive inside has all the io attached to the drive, well, RIP WD

Since you have another drive you can just get a USB enclosure for it and turn it into an external
