Two adapters, a crossover cable, and i-net??

Hello,

I have two computers (XP & Win 7), and they both have a wireless connection to the same router. One of the computers has a problem connecting to the router, and I need a higher bandwidth connection between the two computers, so I bought a crossover cable (the router isn't near the computers). I got the crossover cable working, and the computers can file share alright. However, with each computer having two adapters, neither can connect to the internet via the existing wireless connection. Both computers have some conflict with gateway issues, or whatever problem, and they cannot both use two adapters to network. I only wanted i-net from each computer's wireless, and the homegroup through the crossover. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? I tried bridging each computer, changing gateway IP's, DNS changes, firewall, etc... They only do either both computers with wireless, or both computers crossover networked, but not both.

Thank you,
Erik

Solution
Remove the default gateway on the ethernet port on both computers. You likely should remove the DNS so it does not even bother to try that one.

You can only have 1 default gateway on a pc. In most cases they will prefer the ethernet over the wireless but it varies a little bit so you are best off forcing it to do exactly what you want.

Sorry to take so long. I did ipconfig. In the future it shouldn't take me as long to reply.

I edited my global ip addresses and my physical addresses.

One computer is called FIRSTCOMPUTER and has a wireless adapter and a Yukon network adapter that the crossover cable is plugged into. The other computer is SECONDCOMPUTER and has a wireless and a ethernet that the crossover is plugged into. The FIRSTCOMPUTER seemed to be able to do both internet and crossover today, however the other computer would not do both.

Works perfectly. With only one gateway, I have internet and a crossover connection. Anything I want to specifically go over the crossover, I use the crossover I.P. I'm having trouble with Win 7 maintaining that the crossover connection is a home network, and that the wireless adapter (that I share with people where I live) is a public network. Win 7 wants to revert both to public for some reason.

Thanks again,

Erik
