News Two Chinese nationals charged in US with trying to export banned semiconductor machinery to China — one arrested in Chicago

Other charges include breaking Export Administration Regulations and illegal smuggling, which carry a combined maximum sentencing of 55 years in prison and $2.5 million in fines. However, this level of punishment is extreme and unlikely.

Typo ? It's 5 years prison, not 55 years which of course sounds "extremely" unlikely. Never mind...

What's the source of your news, because I couldn't find any link in the article ?

If convicted, they each face up to 20 years' imprisonment and a $1 million fine for each of the IEEPA charges, 10 years' imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for the smuggling charge and five years' imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for the export charge.

Anyway, these are the actual charges they might be facing.
