Two different GPUs, three monitors

I have two monitors connected to my 280X, both are DVI. My second GPU is HD7870 and it is connected to the third monitor via HDMI.

My main monitor (which is connected via DVI to 280X) is 144 Hz. I want to duplicate my main monitor to my third monitor. However this doesn't seem to work. I know I can only get 60 Hz through HDMI which will be fine.

I don't think you can duplicate the display if the monitors are on different cards. You can try a 3rd party video management program like Ultramon but that also adds some lag to the screen drawing.

I have been using the preview function in OBS in order to duplicate my main monitor to my third monitor, but it uses too much resources from the computer since the game I am playing gets dropped FPS. So I need an active DP->HDMI adapter then?

No if you need to have duplicated displays they need to be on the same card not just an adapter.
