My build:
MSI Radeon R9 390 8g - video card
ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Ranger LGA 1151 - mobo
Gskill 2x8 gb DDR4 -ram
i5 6600k 6M Skylake - cpu
Cooler master hyper 212 evo - cpu cooler
500 gb ssd
dvd rom
750W corsair power supply. purchased in 2011 TX Series CMPSU - 750 TX. 80 Plus Bronze Certified.
The DVD rom is about 5 years old taken from an older computer. I can't find the brand but it uses the same power and data ports as the mobo accepts and the power source provides.
I believe I have followed the steps in Tom's guild but of course I must be mistaken.
I can turn on the computer both from the mobo and from the power button on the case. The message reads:
"Total Memory: 8192 MB (ddr4 -2133) [I CURRENTLY ONLY HAVE ONE OF THE MEMORY STICKS IN THE BUILD]
0 USB devices found
Detected ATA/ATAPI Devices...
SATA Port1: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB
SATA Port3: ATAPI iHDS118 5 [THIS IS THE DVD ROM]
Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting.
No Keyboard Detected!
When RAID Configuration was build, ensure to set SATA Configuration to RAID Mode.
Press F1 to Run SETUP"
I have removed the RAM and tried each stick in the 4 different slots and get the same messages (b2 99 and red light "boot device led").
I have unplugged and replugged in the power to the mobo.
I have a computer speaker which beeps once when I turn on the power and one more time when it gets to the screen which I wrote out above. If I remember correctly these are the same or similar beeps which occur on other computers I have had but I could be wrong. They are each a short beep as if the mobo is recognizing that there is power.
I saw one post from a couple years ago that suggested updating bios?
I really appreciate any suggestions.
