Asus X99-a
3 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 ( x16, x16/x8, x16/x8/x4) with i7-5820k 28 Lanes
That's the expansion slots for the mobo, and this is my first build.
If I understand this right from other questions, does this mean that the 3 PCIe run at 16x meaning if I bought ONE card it would be able to function at 16x in either slot?
If that's the case my BIGGEST concern is these things are massive in thickness and I've only seem them fit on people running 4 PCIe mobos and it has space between the slots
So the mobo I'm going with has only 3 but since I'm only running the 28 lanes with the 5820k, that means the first will run 16x and the second at 8x, I was wondering if for whatever reason the card does not fit on the second slot below the first, would I be able to use the 3rd slot since specifically it shows it runs at 8 lanes?
And will the SLI connector that comes with the mobo be long enough to reach the third or would I have to buy a longer one
