Two Great Deals... AGP Ti4200 and PCI 9100

MWave.com has refurbished ASUS GF4 64MB Ti4200s for $39.99

Overstock.com has ATI 9100 64MB PCI cards for $49.99

I took a gamble on the ATI 9100, so I will let you guys know how it goes... my sister has an HP with no AGP slot... and I want my nephew to be able to play 3D games...

omg there is no comparison to be done here....

The ti4200 would blow up the 9100 handdown

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb) , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/370) , 512mb pc3200 (3-3-3-2), Asus A7N8X-X
 
The Ti4200 is a better bet for gaming framerates to be sure, but the 9100 is a solid card... still good for gaming and excellent display quality as well as a fantastic TV-out (if it comes equipped).

It's not the end of the world, but the Ti4200 would have been the better card.

I successfully hardmodded my Radeon 9500 into a 9500 PRO, enabling all 8 pipelines by soldering the proper bridge.

Then I overclocked the mofo.

All for a measly $80, 6 months ago... got the card cheap on ebay.

Not bad for something that is still better than a stock Radeon 9600XT, eh fellowes? :smile:

yea thats pretty sweet!

I noticed you did that long time ago. Figured thats what you ment...

I wasn't about to take the chance on doing that tho... i just payed for the PRO. still a good deal as far as i was concernd at the time.

Dont forget that the 9100 is a PCI card ..... PCI card tend to suck very bad......

in this case i don't think that would be too much an issue... the card itself only has so much output, going to AGP might not make too much a differance.

Not sure on the spec's for that, but im sure someone here does.

This was not meant to be a comparison question... but thanks for the quick help... this forum is awesome for that... I have been around long enough to know how good the 4200 is... and I have one myself... but seeing the 9100 for $50 saved me from buying a FX5200 from newegg for ~$80... and everyone here tells me the 9100 is far better than the FX5200...

This was meant to be post letting you guys know about some good prices on good cards... and anyone needing a PCI card should check this 9100 out... they are getting hard to find...

The ATI card is for my sister, and she has no AGP slot, so the Ti4200 was not an option for her...

However, I e-mailed a friend of mine still using a Voodoo3 2000 16MB, and he has already ordered the Ti4200, so I will let you guys know how that works out as well...

Just went there and they don't seem to have any of the 4200's. Damn, oh well. I'm sure they sold out quick.

So do you guys think that this would be a decent enough upgrade from my MX440 card? I'd like to be in the market for something bigger, but I just can't afford it right now. Plus I don't do enough gaming to warrent spending $200 on a card.

Definitely, the leap from a MX440 to a Ti4200 is very huge.

Go for a 9600 PRO if you can afford it though, you can get those for less than $130 methinks.

I'd love to get one of those, but over a hundred bucks is definitely too much for me right now. So i figured for just under $50 after shipping wouldn't be too bad for the TI4200.

We do you think the 9600's may drop under $100. If I can wait a few months, I'd rather pick one of those up. If they are going to hover there for a while, I'll probably do a larger upgrade next year.
