I must be out in left field, because I would not be able to give a yes/no answer. To me, it depends upon what exactly is the manufacturer, model name, model number of the 2nd HD to be added. If the 2nd HD is an oldie, from a past era, possibly the new UEFI or new BIOS may not recognize the existing folder/file infrastructure of said 2nd HD.

SATA is SATA.
We are assuming here that the drives in question are less than 10 years old. So...SATA.
Plug it in. It will work.

Might it need to be reformatted? Possibly. But that does not negate the fact that it would 'work'.
