Hello,

I am currently buying a new PC with an MSI Z490 motherboard. It currently has a 500gb Crucial P1 M2 NVMe SSD and a 2Tb HDD, and I am looking to add another 500gb Crucial P2 M2 NVMe SSD. My question is, will they work together without any performance issues?

The manual of the MSI Z490 states:
  • 6x SATA 6Gb/s ports 1
  • 2x M.2 slots (Key M)
    • M2_1 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2242/ 2260/ 2280/ 22110 storage devices 1
    • M2_2 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2242/ 2260/ 2280 storage devices 2
    • Intel® Optane™ Memory Ready 3
    • Supports Intel® Smart Response Technology for Intel Core™ processors
  1. SATA2 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SATA SSD in the M2_1 slot.
  2. SATA5 & SATA6 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SATA/PCIe SSD in the M2_2 slot.
  3. Before using Intel® Optane™ memory modules, please ensure that you have updated the drivers and BIOS to the latest version from MSI website.
Thank you.

Thank you for your reply.

And if I were to then populate one or both of the PCIe x1 slots, will the second NVMe SSD reduce the bandwidth of the GPU? or reduce any other component's bandwidth?

The GPU slot is from the CPU, and the PCIe x1 slots are from the PCH.
