I'm looking at compatible 8GB DDR3 RAM for my systems, one an ASUS Z-87 Pro, the other ASUS PZ68-V LE. Crucial.com's software scanned both computers and says that CT102464BA160B.C16 is the correct part number. However, all of my Crucial RAM chips, which work fine, all have two additional letters after the C16, i.e.

CT102464BA160B.C16FP

I can't find any other RAM on Ebay with that same part number. In fact, other RAM listed there has different letters and there are three letters, usually CT102464BA160B.C16FER or CT102464BA160B.C16FPD

see e.g.:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/174907617362?hash=item28b94e7052:g:wlcAAOSwudhhJZOG

I googled this info, but can't find an answer.

What do the two or three letters mean and do they impact compatibility?

Thanks in advance.

They can impact compatibility. Unfortunately you'll know only after you have tried it.

Mixing different ram kits together is a game of chance. Mostly they work just fine. But there are possible compatibility issues.
That's why ram modules are sold in kits. Modules in a kit are tested for working together and you have higher chance of working them without issues.

Thanks. What about the same pair of RAM chips in each channel, but the pairs are different, ie #1 and #3 have the same brand/model, #2 and #4 have the same brand/model but different from #1 and #3?

Ask crucial.
On the scanner page there is a button to ask the support team a question.
