Two strange problems (shutdown and sleep)

Did a little research and the problems seem common, but mine are slightly different.
Problems might be related.

First problem is my computer wont shut down. When I hit shutdown, it says shutting down and then continues to turn off the screen. But all the lights and fans remain on. Only fix is to hold down the power button.

Second problem is my computer wont wake up from sleep. After going to sleep the power light flashes. But then regardless of what i do it just remains asleep, no fans either, just flashing power light. Again the only fix is to hold down the power button.

Am i missing a simple setting or something? I was wondering if its an SSD related problem or such?

People have similar problems but when they hit power button they say the computer wakes up, but the monitor doesn't. Which is not my case.

Edit: I found some people found powercfg /energy helpful, though i dono what im looking for lol.

The report just says page can not be displayed. Though notepad shows the works, but with a lot of script code added in :s. If it would help i can filter it out.

Try updating your BIOS, then leave everything default, also install all your motherboard drivers, and latest video card drivers

Hi, zoladex.

In the bios under power setting you will find your power modes for the motherboard. It is likely they are not set right and why windows will not shut the system down or awake after being in sleep mode.
Click on the link bellow to see what each Apci mode does in the bios on how you want your system to act. Once set to your choice save the settings in the bios and you should not have any problems.

ok thanks. I'll try that in a bit.
If thats the case it might be something to do with me disabling hybernate. I only managed to do it by that cmd code powercfg hyb -off (or what ever is it)

Had a look aroudn the bios, found these.
I think the only setting with "S" states in was the first one, but only had "s4-s5" and "s5" options :s.

Check ready bit: on
ACPI HPET table: on
PS/2 Keyboard power on: off
PCI device power on: off
Ring-in power on: off
RTC alarm power on: by OS
CSM: on

Try this: After about a week the Microsoft Hotfix stopped working and all the usual shutdown, sleep, boot issues returned. After a lot of messing around I tried removing my graphics card (Asus GTX660 Ti) With the card removed the problems went away, put the card back in the problems returned. Soooooo to cut a long story short, I put the Graphics Card Back in and set my Windows sound scheme to 'NO SOUNDS', the pc now shuts down, sleeps, awakens no problems. My theory is the PC shuts down and or goes into sleep mode before the Graphics card gets a chance to 'power off' leaving it in a Limbo state. It's been over a week now and the PC is still fine.

yeh i was sorta thinking thats what was happening.

I have since solved the problem, apparently AsRock motherboards often corrupt themselves while tinkering. Pulling out the CMOS battery and repla(ooo butterfly flew in the room lol)cing it did the trick.
