I have an extra synology nas and have it on my home network with current nas (both are DS918+). Both nas show up on my network and I can access them from home. The question I am asking is how can I access the spare nas via the internet. I have tried port forwarding using the same ports (5000 and 5001)as my current nas and I cannot use them, because they are already in use.

Yes, I am a complete noob here and looking for some advice from the pros. Both nas devices are connected to my 24 port switch. Router is an Asus GT-AC5300. Any help is greatly appreciated

Apologies for grammar errors.

Jeff.

I would recommend that you change the port on the second unit to something different than 5000 -- https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledgebase/DSM/help/DSM/AdminCenter/connection_network_dsmsetting
THEN port forward that other set of ports.
Thank you. I have been through theses articles, Of course it is like reading a foreign language to me. What would I change the port to? I have read this but what I am getting is that I need to use port 5000 and 5001 for the DSM.
https://www.synology.com/en-global/...t_network_ports_are_used_by_Synology_services

I am confused.

You can change it to anything. Personally, I would change it to something that helps me remember which device it is. So if I have a device with an static IP address of .70 then I like to use 70 in the port number. So I would change to 5070 and 5071. From then on you would use port 5070 to access that device from local or from remote.
You don't NEED to use 5000/5001 those are just the defaults.
