Hello,
I am trying to use to external monitors with a Dell E6400 in a docking station. The dock has only one VGA and one DVI port. Adapter from VGA to DVI does not work. Suspect I need an external video card adapter. I want to use the two external monitors together w/o the laptop LCD. Anyone know how to solve this? OS is Windows XP. Thanks.

when you tried using the dvi port did you have both ports used at once? (dvi and the vga) perhaps the dock only allows one output (an either or solution). in this case you're sol.

if the dock does support both outputs at once then either the connector you used was bad/not connected right or the port is dead. a few tests (with native dvi) would determine yes/no.

an external video card adapter would probably work (but its not the most ideal solution). read the specs on it before you decide.

You need one of these http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=ldymls&xhr=t&q=dvi+to+vga&cp=8&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=17571691001217365742&sa=X&ei=jhuvTanGFdStgQeunqCKDA&sqi=2&ved=0CD0Q8gIwBA#, connect that to the DVI port on the dock, VGA cable to that. You do want to check the manual for it to make sure it supports dual outs like ssddx said.
